Procedures for Admission
Dover seeks to provide students with an education that balances academic preparation, professional training, and hands-on experience. The College considers students for admission on the basis of future promise and the motivation to succeed in a chosen profession.
Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED), and an entrance exam are basic requirements for admission. A personal interview is strongly recommended.
Nursing applicants are required to take an entrance exam; complete an essay and a personal interview; and submit a physical assessment by a licensed physician, advanced practice registered nurse, or physician assistant. Required immunization and communicable disease history must meet requirements of affiliating agencies and New Jersey regulations. Written consent to conduct a criminal history background check also is required.
Surgical Technologist and Patient Care Technician students must submit the following documentation prior to their clinical experience: Physical assessment by a licensed physician, advanced practice registered nurse, or physician assistant and immunization and communicable disease history meeting requirements of affiliating agencies and state regulations. Written consent to conduct a criminal history background check is required prior to registration.
Applicants are encouraged to call the Director of Admissions at the location of their choice to arrange for an appointment with an admissions counselor to discuss their educational objectives and career plans and to receive a tour of the College. For further information, students also can email Dover (info@doverbusinesscollege.org).
Since Dover maintains a rolling admission policy, students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The Committee on Admission notifies applicants of a decision as soon as all credentials have been evaluated.
High School Applicants
To be considered for admission, the following information must be submitted:
- An application for admission and a non-refundable $25 application fee
- A high school transcript or the equivalent, or signed certification by an applicant of possession of a high school diploma or GED, along with a request to forward official documentation to Dover Business College
Tentative acceptance will be granted to high school
seniors pending successful completion of high school.
Adult Applicants
Many adults are striving to balance work and family with school while others have not yet found the time to reenter or even begin college. To meet these special requirements, Dover provides an environment that is sensitive to and supportive of adult students. In addition, the academic deans and department chairs provide guidance to adult students who may be able to earn credit for college-level learning acquired through experience.
Adult students who previously have attended another college or business or medical school should follow the procedures for transfer applicants. Adults who are first-time college students must submit the following information to be considered for admission:
- An application for admission and a non-refundable $25 application fee
- A high school transcript or the equivalent, or signed certification by the applicant of possession of a high school diploma or GED, along with a request to forward official documentation to Dover Business College
Transfer Applicants
Students who graduated from high school or equivalent and then attended another college or school are considered transfer students. To be considered for admission, the following information must be submitted:
- An application for admission and a non-refundable $25 application fee
- A high school transcript or the equivalent, or signed certification by the applicant of possession of a high school diploma or GED, along with a request to forward official documentation to Dover Business College
If all post-secondary institutions previously attended are not listed on the admission application, transfer credit may not be granted.
Dover will accept transfer credits from accredited post-secondary institutions for courses, other than nursing (NUR) and surgical technologist (SUR), in which students earned a minimum grade of C and that are applicable to a student’s program at Dover. Nursing and surgical technologist courses require a minimum grade of C+ to be considered for transfer and will be evaluated on an individual basis.
